BIG BEAR BALD EAGLE LIVE NEST - CAM 1
Bald Eagles aren't short when it comes to birds, but they're shorter than a lot of other things. This is "Shadow" the male eagle sitting on a nest containing two eggs nearing hatching state. The female, "Jackie", is off hunting for food she'll bring back to the nest. Shadow will sit on the nest till late morning or early afternoon when Jackie will take over. I've been watching them now for five & a half days. They've been weathering through continual snowstorms with small breaks in between like this one with even a little sunshine. Every time I see them I send warm thoughts to them. Who knows? There are countless other people watching them & if we all send warm thoughts their way, maybe it helps? I'd like to think so, anyway. I totally believe in the power of multiple thoughts all going in the same direction! If you want to try watching them, key in on your computer: Big Bear Bald Eagle Live Nest - Cam 1 I can also bring the video up on my TV screen by simply saying the same thing & clicking on "guest" if the question arises. Last night which ever bird was on the nest late was almost totally covered in snow & it was still snowing! Poor thing. But they're hardy birds & they won't give up those eggs for anything. Everyone's hoping the eggs won't hatch until the weather is a little better but it's hard to say when that will be, because we're due for more snowy weather for the next two days. Big Bear Lake, by the way, is in the southern Calif. mountains.
I got hooked on Shadow and Jackie two seasons ago and could relate to their landscape through all of your stories about California. I haven't watched them this season but have bookmarked their channel to watch how they cope with the snow. I trust you and yours are snug in your new home. Between wildfires and now snowstorms, Californians have been forced to endure much more than just bad weather.
ReplyDeleteFunny, but for some reason I felt if someone in our small group of Sepians were to know about Shadow & Jackie, it would probably be you! :) We pretty much have two seasons where we live - summer (hot) & winter (cold). We see spring for about a week before we jump from cold to hot, & get a quick peek at fall when we shift from hot to cold & that's about it. At least in our new place we only get about an inch or two of snow instead of half a foot or more, & our driveway isn't steep like it was at the other house! Even with 4WD it was a little tricky getting up that thing at times.
DeleteI remember watching some eagles via hidden camera some years ago. I don't know if it was these or not. I am going to go check on them now.
ReplyDeleteWatching them now. Those are some tough birds!
ReplyDeleteThey really are - tough & resilient! But if they can live & flourish in Alaska, they can live & flourish in southern Calif.! :)
