LAUGH AND THE WORLD LAUGHS WITH YOU

My Mom at a New Year’s Eve card party laughing at the antics of my father and her best friend, Janie.

Babies are easy to catch laughing.  They have no inhibitions about laughing and giggling out loud about anything!  Look at me – I’m happy as a clam with an old rolled oats box.

Twenty-seven years later I was shocked into laughter about something my new husband found rather humorous, evidently.

I was married on my Dad’s birthday, so I had arranged for a birthday cake to be presented to him complete with a sparkler during our wedding reception and he laughed in surprise.  He had a great booming laugh when he was tickled.

My cousin and her new husband at her wedding, laughing at everyone covering them with silly string.

At my son’s graduation after two-plus years of night classes to gain his Electrician’s Journeyman’s license.  He had just opened his graduation gift from his sister which must have been a funny one as he’s laughing and pointing at her.  Actually, everyone was laughing.  I wish I could remember what was so funny.

My daughter laughing at her daughter who, when asked to hold up her pompom, zipped it directly in front of her face just as I snapped the shot.

My cousins and my brother (left end) and me (red/white top) laughing at something someone said just as our picture was being snapped.

Camping at Lake Tahoe, we had made these huge S’mores over a campfire with oversized melted marshmallows.  They looked great & were super yummy, but oh boy – try eating one!  Brought a lot of laughter.

But the best laughter of all - my daughter, Suzanne, four years into her recovery from Traumatic Brain Injury suffered in a boating accident at Tahoe.  We were back at the lake and she was so excited and happy to be able to play Frisbee on the beach again. J

P.S.  Just for laughs!

  1. Thanks for giving me a couple of laughs with Dave Barry! Love his work! You have had quite a happy life, if these pictures are any indicator. Great collection, as always!

    1. I was very fortunate to grow up in a family - including aunts, uncles, & cousins - with lots of laughter. Members of my father's family had very dry senses of humor. My mom's side was more on the silly side. The combination of the two was sometimes almost lethal. We really were a happy loving laughing family and so is my own. A good healthy way to be! :)

  2. So much laughter! So nice to see a bride laughing! I had a similar wooden high chair. I think there are some photos of me smiling quietly, but none really laughing like you are!

    1. I find laughter almost everywhere in almost everything - even in things that weren't so funny when they happened, but looking back on them after the fact seems, sometimes, to be almost hilarious. Sitting around campfires when the whole extended family gets together most summers is one big laughing fest. I feel so very blessed that way.

  3. I knew you would have perfect family photos for this theme! Unlike the old sepia tone photos where almost everyone has a serious, even sombre, expression, modern photos now shine with a huge variety of smiles from true joy to forced grins. My favorite kind are those with smiling babies which are just natural expressions of joy and delight. It's a picture of a universal emotion that needs no translation. (And Dave Barry's stories made me smile too :—)

    1. Spontaneous laughter to either see or feel is the best sort of laughter for sure! :))

  4. Lots of lovely happy memories of family and friends laughing aloud and making me smile. My favorite has to be the natural laughter of a you in your high chair.
