ROUND A TABLE INDOORS

What sorts of things do we do round a table indoors?

We celebrate a 21st birthday. My Mom sets a birthday cake in front of her eldest.

Turnabout’s fair play. We celebrate my Mom’s 95th birthday.  She’s first on the left.

We celebrate a 6th birthday.  My son’s, sitting at the near end of the table.

We have brunch with the Red Hat Society.  My daughter & I are on the far right end.

We celebrate the last potluck of summer vacation with family.

We celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day with friends & neighbors.

We drive to Wisconsin and have lunch with family we haven’t seen in a while.  On the near ends are my Mom and her brother, Jim.  Back three, L-R, are Mom’s Mom (my Grandma Louise), her Aunt Maria, and her sister-in-law Shirley.

We have breakfast in a cabin in the snow – my youngest sister, brother, and middle sis, with Dad relaxing alongside (with a cigarette – Ugh).

We have early morning coffee round the little table in the kitchen where I grew up.  My middle Sis (drinking juice), and my Dad and Grandma Louise having coffee.

We have lunch in my Mom & Dad’s little trailer.  Dad, Mom, & my youngest sis.

We wait to have our order taken at Bubba Gumps in Monterey.  L-R, my brother, my eldest daughter, me, & my husband.

We order our favorite breakfast at a favorite café – Blueberry Splatter Cakes with a ‘little’ whipped cream.  Swedish pancakes rolled up with sweet cream inside covered in blueberry (what looks like) pie filling topped off with whipped cream.  Soooo good & no sugar or calories of course. ;)

And if we don’t eat at a table?

We might work on a puzzle.  My husband on a hot summer day.

Or perhaps we play Cribbage - eldest daughter with a friend . . .

. . . and win!

Or work on a computer . . .

. . . or play with toys on our play table as soon as we get dressed from our bath unless we’re supposed to be going to bed in which case we’ll play with our toys on the table in the morning.

Or . . . we just sit and wait patiently to be noticed.

  1. I am one of your fans here in Sepia-land. Just wonder why you never make a comment when you post to the links. But I do enjoy seeing how you come up with suggested memes so well. Your family must have been taking photos often, and now you've got them well organized, I'm pretty sure. Thanks for these fun "around the table" shots.

    1. You know, I used to leave a comment when I posted my post, but then one time when I did that, my post disappeared and I had to redo it so from then on I stopped. It was probably just a fluke thing so I should probably start leaving a post on Alan's link again. And I'm glad you enjoy my posts. I really have fun putting them together. I always enjoy yours, too! :)

  2. I love this photo montage! So many of these photos are like images I have from my family as well -- all around various tables at special and regular occasions. I particularly liked the kids birthday photo. Brought back memories of my childhood and the many such parties my sibs and I had in our basement. And thanks for the clarification on why you don't leave a Sepia comment. I was wondering, too :-)

    1. While we were living in Gasquet in northern Calif., for a modest donation, my son's birthday parties were held in the local Veterans Hall which was so convenient. No muss & fuss at home, and the kids had plenty of room to run around without endangering anything. It was great. Too bad the girls weren't old enough for their parties to be held there too, but we moved before they began having parties.

  3. Thanks for another wonderful tour of family tables! It occurs to me that tables are a universal feature in all family photos regardless of nationality or time period. Formal photos might have just a chair or a stool, but favorite snapshots are always of families gathered at a table to share food and drink. Personalities can shine through in these pics that are sometimes vailed in serious portraits. Hope this holiday season brings you more good photos to add to your collection!

    1. My Dad was constantly taking snapshots of things going on in our family which has given me a great base to choose from. My sister actually has most of the family albums & one of these days I plan to get them from her & then I'll have a whole new base to choose from! I followed his lead & have been the 'official' family picture-taker for many years now, so have my own base to work from which is so convenient for Sepia Saturday. Happy Holidaze!

  4. Lots of festive occasions, and I like it that you found some involving games as well! :) We used to play board games quite a lot in my family but I'm not sure I have any photos to prove it!

    1. I know. While you're busy playing the games, who thinks of getting up & taking a picture of it? My brother and I used to play marathon Monopoly for hours. We'd actually have to set a timer to end the game in a reasonable amount of time because we'd loan each other money or lower rent on houses & buildings, etc. so we could keep playing & playing. The puzzle my husband was working on was actually our daughter's & I just happened to catch him trying to fit a few pieces together. :)
