POSING WITH THE FAMILY CAR
My husband’s grandparents, Harry & Lillian Brasier with their family posed around the newest family car at the time. Harry sold new cars so the family always had nice ‘wheels’.
My paternal Grandma B (Bradley), with my aunts Harriet, Frances, Ruth, and my Dad in 1919 posed by the
family car.
My Dad with his own car in
1935. I believe that's Mt. Shasta behind him.
My Grandma Louise posed by her 1940-something Chevy. Later she owned a sharp ’53 aqua blue & white Chevy Bel Air.
Me, my brother, and middle
sister, Easter, 1947, standing in front of our family’s 1942 Pontiac sedan.
Dad by our 1955 Ford
Country Squire station wagon – packed up and ready to head home after two weeks
of camping at Lake Tahoe. I learned to
drive in this car. J
Talk about posing! My middle Sis being silly beside the ’59-‘60
Country Squire in 1963
My youngest Sis posed on
my brother’s ‘new’ car – a ’56 Chevy two-door hard-top. I got to drive it for 3 months when he was in
Navy boot camp in 1965. Nice car. I couldn’t afford a car of my own, so it was neat
to have a car to get around freely in – if only for a short time. Gas at that time was 37₡ a gallon!
And then I got married and
got to drive this little gem around whenever I wanted! It was fun.
But all too soon we began raising a family and the sporty little Karmann
Ghia was traded in on a nice light
yellow Datsun station wagon.
A couple of years after
that we became a two-car family with my husband’s acquisition of a red Toyota
Land Cruiser which, a few years after that . . .
You win the prize for matching this weekend's theme. I'm impressed that you remember the makes of the cars too. Those station wagons had terrific utility in their day but they were HUGE! And like the dinosaurs they became extinct only to be replaced by other giants. Such is evolution. But I'm envious that you had a Karmann Ghia, one of the most beautiful designs VW ever made.
ReplyDeleteDriving that Karmann Ghia around was a kick. Unfortunately we didn't get to do it for all that long, as, as mentioned, little sports cars don't work for families with children. Oh well.
