As sometime happens, I had two completely different ideas for this Saturday's post & couldn't decide which one to post, so posted them both.  This one contains  teasers to help you decide what you'd like to read.  ;)

    What a clever idea! All your story proposals are intriguing but my first choice would be "Avenging Angel", since I like action novels/movies. I could even imagine the sword theme might translate well into a Japanese or Chinese setting, too. "The Ruse" sounds like a play that Mozart might have used for an opera. Likewise "The Debacle" could be a Broadway musical.

    I often look at the people in my photo collection and wonder about what happened to them after the camera took their picture. Sitting here in the future, a century and more after their portrait or postcard was made, and knowing what the larger history of the world will bring, I imagine the likely and unlikely paths their lives might follow. Did they find happiness or tragedy? Did they make wise decisions or foolish mistakes? Since most of my photos are of anonymous people every picture has the potential for more than one story, too.

  My husband’s ancestors:  His Grandmother Daisy May Elizabeth Young, her husband (or husband-to-be?), Fred Latham Perlee, and her sister whose name we don’t know.  Fred is wearing a rather frumpy-looking straw hat, and the girls are sporting quite the elaborate chapeaux. CROWDS GATHERING HITHER & YON

CARS WITH SMOKESTACKS & OTHER ODD THINGS

  I really did find a couple of cars with smokestacks. Did having a smokestack make the cars go faster?  I could find no evidence supporting it, so who knows? Then there were these babies driving around with gas bags on top of them.  Yikes. Fill ‘er up! This one appears to be full up & bursting at the seams! I’m not sure this would be a safe way to travel?  Apparently it was somewhat popular during WWII when gasoline was scarce. It just looks a little scary to me. It seemed to work well enough, though.  And if it was really dangerous I think I would have seen pictures of some gastly (‘scuse the pun) accidents, but I didn’t. This one wins the prize, however, with a brick chimney.  A not too shabby early version of an RV.  I wonder if there really is a small fireplace or wood stove inside?  The father was a traveling musician. :-> La Nightingail
