My husband’s other grandmother, Daisy May Elizabeth Young, first row, second from right.  Not sure who everyone else is, but lots of short hair styles.  c. 1930s?

Mom in 1987 at the age of 69 in a hairstyle she wore for many years.  Every once in a while she’d try changing it to something different, but it wasn’t long before she was back to her signature hairdo.  It simply suited her as nothing else did.

At 98 Mom’s hair was getting a little too thin to be able to wear it as she had for so long, but we all liked this new look.

In my teen years I wore my hair long – sometimes down, sometimes up in a ponytail or chignon, but when I reached my 20s and was working, I wanted to look more in fashion, so opted for a short ‘do’ like this one in 1964 when I was 24.

I let is grow a little longer in 1967 for a kind of bubble pageboy.

In the intervening years between 1967 and 2008 I sometimes had long hair, sometimes short hair, sometimes in between.  Here, I was growing it out from a short hairdo I hadn’t liked all that much.  And of course the color had changed!  Nowadays I wear it long and mostly in a ponytail.

A couple of years later she was in college and opted for a more sophisticated look. 

My youngest sister round about 1966 at 18.  Eight years later her hair was down to her waist! J

    Yes indeed, most of us women change hair styles through the years, even different looks as teens on along. Poor guys, they just had the 70s to have long hair and sideburns, but otherwise they usually go with the same look throughout their lives, until perhaps they become a bit balding! It was fun to see two different posts from you today!

      Under the circumstances, I didn't think anyone would mind me entering my post for last week, this week. I had found such amazing (& not in a good way) children's ads, I didn't want to leave them out.

    Great collection of hairstyles. I feel I have about the same hairstyle now (at almost 70) that I had in photos from when I was around two years old! - But no doubt there has been some variation in between...

ALL IN THE FAMILY TWO BY TWO - PART 1

  Once upon a time there was a young girl, Lillian Adelle Whitney (my Mom), seen here with her mother (my Grandma Louise), Bertha Louise (Parton) Whitney in 1928. The young girl had a grandmother, Johanna Magdelina (Hedmon) Parton/Kellstrom, seen here on the right with her daughter. Bertha Louise (Parton) Whitney. The young girl also had a younger brother (my Uncle ‘Jim’), Ira Edwin Whitney, the pair seen here on the beach at Santa Cruz in 1928. And here they are 45 years later in 1973. The young girl grew up and met a nice young man (my father), Herbert Kinsey Bradley, who came from good family. Here are his mother, Harriet Bell (Smedley) Bradley, and his father, Frank Herbert Bradley, pictured on their honeymoon in 1906. And later in the 1920s or early ‘30s. A TRIP TO YO-SEMITE IN 1874 - PART 1

  No cars.  Just trains, carriages, horses, & mules. Over the next few weeks I’m going to be sharing my great grandfather, John Kinsey Smedley’s story of his trip to Yosemite in 1874.  He kept a journal of the trip of which his daughter, my paternal grandmother, Harriet (Hattie) Bell Smedley Bradley, made a handwritten copy. Funny thing about that – in his journal, my great grandfather said certain things I guess my grandmother did not feel was proper for her father to have mentioned – such as swear words or the fact that he liked talking with women.  They were neither married nor engaged at the time – though they did later marry – but her father was in a serious relationship with the woman who would become my grandmother’s mother, so not cozying to the idea of her father swearing or liking to talk to other women, my grandmother made no mention of any of that in her handwritten copy of his journal.
