THE YOUNG MALE SPECIES IN POSE

My husband’s Dad, Charles

Charles and his younger brother, Al.

Al (in the hat) and his younger brother, Melvin.

The brothers: Charles, Mel, and Al.

My husband posing in a costume of some kind in the mid 1940s.  What an expression!

Like father, like son.  Our son in 1970 posing with an expression very similar to his father’s 25 years before.

Back to my husband – this time in a rather fancy looking American Indian costume.

Our son played Indian brave for Halloween when he was 4, but Mom’s version of the costume wasn’t quite as fancy as his Dad’s.

Hubby asked for and got a football uniform for Christmas in the early 1950s.  He’s been a football fan most of his life.  Me too.  I was playing football in the street with a neighborhood boy when I was 10 and 11 – just about the time future husband was striking this pose.  The closest he ever got to being in a game was playing in the band.  The closest I ever got to being in a game was cheerleading.  But everyone in our family loves the game including eldest daughter – even from an early age.

  1. When you were a cheerleader and your husband was a member of the band, that's when you met?

    1. No. He lived in southern Calif. at the time & I lived in the East (S.F.) Bay Area. We met at Lake Tahoe while on vacation - me with my family, and he, with friends, when we were 17. It was a 3 day summer romance thing. We lost track of each other for a while, meeting again 4 years later, dated unsuccessfully for a time, met again 6 years after that, and married 11 years after we first met and this summer we will have been married for 57 years. :)

  4. Well done! This was clearly an inspiring theme to match all these boys. It looks like a lot of mothers' craftwork went into the clothes too. I suppose my mom dressed me in short pants for while but I soon graduated to long blue jeans with rolled up cuffs. And I bet everyone has at least one or two memorable Halloween costumes like your little Indians.

  5. You made my day with these photos! Impossible to be in a bad mood scrolling through one after another delightful picture. Personal favorites are your husband in the 1940s Halloween costume (look at those pants!) and your son below it with the same expression. Priceless!
