ARCHES & BANNERS
The arch marking the start of stage 4 of the AMGEN Tour of California in Sonora, California on South Washington Street, May 16, 2012
The citizens of Sonora
gathered en mass to celebrate the event.
And the band played on.
A banner advertising the Sierra
Apple Festival across South Washington Street in Sonora.
The banner on the right is advertising the Sonora Celtic Festival. I can’t make out what the other banner is advocating – both stretched across South Washington Street.
These two banners hanging over South Washington Street had me giggling. I wonder if anyone else noticed these two might not be the best banners to put up together?
Now we’re up the hill in
Groveland and I can’t tell from here what the banner says, but the next photo
answers the question.
Looking at it close up
from the other side it says “American Heart Month, Go Red For Women”.
I have no idea what the banner way on down there is about, but it’s colorful and looks cheerful.
Something will be taking
place in the Tenaya (elementary) school gym according to this banner.
Looks like a 4th
of July celebration will be taking place at the Pine Mountain Lake stables in
Groveland.
Not much to say about this
banner except it’s a pretty shade of green & goes well with the trees.

Christmas Craft Fair.
A snowy downtown Groveland
with its “Happy Holidays” banner across the highway makes the perfect Christmas
card.
Angels Camp’s Christmas
decoration ‘banners’ are especially lovely at night all lit up.
I want to dive right into
my computer screen and see what everyone’s selling!
These unique ‘banners’ in
Angels Camp are hung across the highway to remind folks of the coming Jumping
Frog Jubilee.
The sign on the other side of the arch reads:
“Luc’s Run/Finish”.
Luc’s Run is an annual
race held in historic Tuolumne City, CA to remember Maj. Lucas “Luc” Gruenther,
a United States Air Force pilot who died in the line of duty in 2013. The race begins and ends in front of Tuolumne
Veteran’s Memorial Hall and includes 3 races: a children’s race, a 2-miler for
walkers or short-route runners, and a 10K race, plus there’s music and other
fun festivities.
All proceeds from Luc’s
Run in Tuolumne go to the Major Lucas Gruenther Legacy Foundation, an
IRS-approved 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. The foundation provides scholarships to
Americans for the advancement of educational goals and self development. The 2024 11th annual Luc’s Run
raised over $49,000.

So cool, both you and Sue saw the banners and arches and found so many photos to contribute this week! Love seeing all these, and hearing about everything being celebrated there. Now how do you pronounce Tuolumne?
ReplyDeleteIt's pronounced Too-WALL-oo-me The 'n' is silent.
DeleteI am convinced that the participants of Luc's Run all start in the wrong direction! If, just before the start, you look up at the arch, what do you read? But as long as they raise money for the Foundation, who cares!
ReplyDeleteIt never dawned on me the runners, from their viewpoint, would see the "finish" sign as they started the race. Good observation! But yes, no matter if they raise beaucoup $$$ for a worthy cause. :))
DeleteWow! I never thought banners could have such variety in a small town. But it's a great idea to promote community activities and attract visitors. Of course I liked the Golden Regiment Band but not everyone was playing. I hope that trombonist who took a break to smile for the camera was able to jump back into the music without losing his place!
ReplyDeleteBanners & posters are the biggest & best ways to advertise happenings in small towns. I've lived in a number of small towns over the years and know that for a fact first hand having tacked up, taped up, hung up, and even nailed up a zillion posters.
