ON THE BEACH, BUT NOT TO SWIM

Spreading out on the beach at Meeks Bay after a rainstorm has passed to sing a few songs.

1997 – Sitting on the beach in beach chairs waiting for a Shakespearian production of “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” to begin at Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe.  Leaning into the photo on the left: my cousin Carole.  Behind her, beginning with the fellow in the dark shirt: my cousin Marian’s husband Bob, Marian, my youngest daughter, two friends, and my cousin George.

We’re somewhere down there toward the front – about 6 or 7 rows back.

  1. Very sandy pics. I can't understand how our ancestors once enjoyed a beach dressed in formal city clothes like a three-piece wool suit. Even trying to walk on a beach in stockings and shoes rather than barefoot just seems crazy.
I like the stage of your Sand Harbor Theatre. Just a short walk from my house is a park with an amphitheater at the bottom of a hill where a local community Shakespeare company puts on outdoor productions in the summer. The natural bowl shape nicely amplifies voices and I think that lake would do the same.

  2. Great beach photos. I remember sitting kind of behind dunes on an island in Georgia where there was quite a lot of wind so the dunes were wind-breakers. Soft white sand is really nice to walk on, sit upon, or swim along. I think I'd enjoy doing what the ladies in your last photo did, swinging in beach chairs!

  3. A wonderful collection of people relaxing and enjoying themselves. My favourite the early pictures of the Brasier family. I likes your title too.
