MOTORBIKES & THEIR RIDERS
I wonder where those two fellows in the background are running off to –
especially since they’re headed in opposite directions? And why are they running??
Muriel Hind with a motorcycle in 1882.
Great Aunts Lizzie and Mazzie (not mine) riding double
in 1918.
This photo is entitled “The Right Stuff”. Looks to be around the 1920s or early ‘30s?
Irish silent film star, Eileen Percy, posing as an illustrator’s model on a motorcycle showing rather a bit of leg for the times.
A ‘30s-‘40s starlet advertising Indian Motorcycles?
1940s woman looking like she means business!
This gal, not so much.
¯ The hills are alive with the sound of - a motorbike being
driven across an open meadow. Not
exactly the sound of music – to most
of our ears, anyway. ¯
Did she drive and he ride, or is he just allowing her
to pose with his bike?
I’ll bet they garnered a bit of attention!
Looks like Mom was taking the family out for a Sunday spin
around the neighborhood.
This, however, would have been my mode of motorbike
transportation – a nice balanced three-wheeler!
I rode on the back of a motorcycle once.
I didn’t like it at all so there went that boyfriend! Oh well. But this little number I could have seen
myself riding back in the day.
When I finally have to turn in my car keys (many, years from now, hopefully!) perhaps I’ll get me one of these little beauties to tool around our senior park neighborhood - except I’d want it in pink. (Once a Barbie fan, always a Barbie fan.) J As I understand it, however, I might need some sort of driver’s license to operate it if I were to take it out on a public street.

Fantastic series of photos - all sepia (except the last) - and all on prompt. I'm a wee bit jealous.

ReplyDeleteThat quite a medley of biker gals! Some of those early motorbikes had open chain or even belt drives that look pretty dangerous for anyone wearing a skirt. The latest electric scooters and bikes are really cool being both quiet and pollution free.
