MOTORBIKES & THEIR RIDERS

 

I wonder where those two fellows in the background are running off to – especially since they’re headed in opposite directions?  And why are they running??

All in leather with her little doggie.  Fay was the real deal - an Irish motorcycle racer.

¯ The hills are alive with the sound of - a motorbike being driven across an open meadow.  Not exactly the sound of music – to most of our ears, anyway. ¯

Did she drive and he ride, or is he just allowing her to pose with his bike?


When sidecars came out it made biking all the more fun.  But did he really ride in the sidecar and let her pilot the bike?  Cute suit.

I’ll bet they garnered a bit of attention!

Looks like Mom was taking the family out for a Sunday spin around the neighborhood.

This, however, would have been my mode of motorbike transportation – a nice balanced three-wheeler!  I rode on the back of a motorcycle once.  I didn’t like it at all so there went that boyfriend!  Oh well.  But this little number I could have seen myself riding back in the day.

When I finally have to turn in my car keys (many, years from now, hopefully!) perhaps I’ll get me one of these little beauties to tool around our senior park neighborhood - except I’d want it in pink. (Once a Barbie fan, always a Barbie fan.) J   As I understand it, however, I might need some sort of driver’s license to operate it if I were to take it out on a public street.

    That quite a medley of biker gals! Some of those early motorbikes had open chain or even belt drives that look pretty dangerous for anyone wearing a skirt. The latest electric scooters and bikes are really cool being both quiet and pollution free.

The light-colored building on the left is the Red Lion Hotel.   Clovelly is an historic, car-free village nestled on a cliff known for its cobbled traffic-free streets and working port. CELEBRATED CHRISTMAS CARDS This is kind of long so you might want to pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea or eggnog before you start?  Maybe add a biscuit or two, or perhaps a slice of my Grandma Louise’s fruitcake? I’ve been known to choose lovely Christmas cards to send out to family & friends such as this cheerful neighborhood scene. Or this snowy one in the town of Groveland, California where we lived for 28 years. We had visited friends in Alaska the year we sent this card out. This was the card we sent for Christmas the year we met “Ella”, the little pigeon who suddenly flew into our lives.  I couldn’t have found a more perfect card. J And this one went out the year my Dad passed away shortly before Christmas.  It just seemed so right. MOUNTAINS: MERCURIAL, MYSTIC, MAJESTIC, MAGNIFICENT

  My Dad in the 1930s with, I think, Mt. Shasta behind him.  Or it could have been Mt. Lassen?  Both are in California's Cascade mountain range.  Unfortunately there was no description on the back of the photograph. Mount. Shasta.  I tobogganed somewhere up there in the early '60s back when Shasta boasted a ski resort.  The town at the foot of the mountain is Mount Shasta City. Mt. Shasta seen from the small community of McCloud, with a red barn to add an artistic touch. Lake Almanor in northern Calif. where the Sierra and Cascade mountain ranges meet, with Mount Lassen in the background. Mt. Edgecumbe in Sitka, Alaska.  We were here in 1997 to visit friends.  It’s an amazing place with hundreds of large and small forested islands all around – some of the larger ones supporting homes which have to supply their own water, sewer systems, & electricity.  And of course they have to take a boat to town to buy groceries, see a doctor, or whatev...
